GET TO KNOW ME....

My name is Ashley Dennison-Sheppard, I’m a New Orleans native, mom, wife, sister and Cancer Survivor(ING) currently residing in Houston, TX. I’ve worked in public education for the last 10 years. Initially in the classroom and now in SpEd administration. I am also a licensed Cosmetologist, since 2001. My professional journey as a nail technician began at 2900 Magazine St. NOLA. A popular luxury day spa known as BellaDonna. After having my first child, I returned to work part time at another popular trendy salon and spa on Old Metairie Rd known as H2O. I worked there until 2005 when Hurricane Katrina unexpectedly uprooted our life and placed us in HTX and as a family we decided to remain here. I had a brief working experience at Beautique Day Spa located in the Upper Kirby area as a result of my previous manager Laura from H2O writing a lovely letter of recommendation. I worked in the back office for Tourneau in 2006. I was blessed with another daughter in 2009, after that I would be a stay at home mom until 2014. I never worked in a salon/spa again. I let my license expire in 2016. I dabbled around with event planning, making jewelry/bracelets and all sorts of DIY projects which I love. In 2019 my life forever changed, I was diagnosed with Cancer. I had surgery in January of 2020 and started Chemotherapy/Radiation treatments simultaneously that February. Everyday Mon-Fri I went to radiation treatments. I went every Tuesday for Chemo which was a 4-6hr duration. I lost over 25lbs within a month. It’s hard to put that experience into words… and then COVID-19 happens during the same time. As a side effect I had and have Neutropenia which causes your WBC to become VERY LOW which led to being referred to a Hematologist to rule out any underlying condition which led to a bone marrow biopsy. I would be in a crisis(critical status) for the next 3 years. I would go to the Oncologist & Radiologist every week, every 2 weeks, every month and now every 6 months. It was the worst time of my life. Those series of events have brought me here, at last ... .after 8 years I restored my Cosmetology license. I renewed my DBA (Chic Haven Cozy Nails) and completed all TDLR documents/requirements. This is a big deal for ME, doing what I ENJOY and not feeling less than because of it. On Friday 11/9/2024 I received the keys to my first ever personal salon suite!! I look forward to sharing THIS journey with you.
XoXo,
Ashley
